Week 1: Meet the Clay, Meet the Wheel (Sunday, February 9th, 10 AM - 12 PM)
Welcome & Orientation: Get to know your classmates and the studio space. We’ll cover safety, tools, and what to expect.
Clay Basics: Learn about different types of clay and their properties.
Getting Hands-On: Practice wedging (a.k.a. giving your clay a good workout).
Throwing 101: Introduction to centering clay on the wheel and shaping your first simple form, like a cylinder.
Homework: Sketch out ideas for pieces you’d like to create over the next few weeks. Schedule independent studio time.
Week 2: Shaping Up (Sunday, February 16th, 10 AM - 12 PM)
Review & Practice: Recap Week 1 and spend more time getting comfortable on the wheel.
Form Focus: Learn how to create bowls and small plates.
Introduction to Handbuilding: Explore slab and coil techniques to complement your wheel-thrown pieces.
Decorative Techniques: Experiment with adding texture and simple carvings to your pieces.
Homework: Think about how you’d like to finish (glaze) your work. Schedule independent studio time.
Week 3: Let’s Get Creative (Sunday, February 23rd, 10 AM - 12 PM)
Finishing Touches: Trimming the bottoms of your wheel-thrown pieces to give them a polished look.
Design Play: Add handles, spouts, or embellishments to your work (hello, mugs and pitchers!).
Underglaze 101: Learn how to add color and patterns before firing.
Studio Time: Dedicated time to work on a personal project with instructor guidance.
Homework: Finalize ideas for any additional pieces to create in the last class. Schedule independent studio time.
Week 4: Fire It Up! (Sunday, March 2nd, 10 AM - 12 PM)
Final Creations: Use everything you’ve learned to create a piece that shows off your new skills.
Glazing Basics: Learn about the glazing process and apply your chosen finishes to bisque-fired pieces.
Studio Tour: Get a behind-the-scenes look at the kiln and firing process.
Celebration & Wrap-Up: Reflect on your progress, share your creations, and celebrate with snacks and photos.
Pickup Reminder: Your glazed and final-fired pieces will be ready for pickup next Saturday from 10 AM - 3 PM. Add reminder to you phone to pick up your pieces next Saturday from 10 AM - 3 PM.
